Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI employees, introduces Claude 3, a family of AI models rivaling Google and OpenAI’s best. Unlike its predecessors, Claude 3 is multimodal, excelling in text and photo comprehension.

According to Anthropic, Claude 3 boasts enhanced capabilities, including improved question answering, longer instruction comprehension, and higher accuracy. With Claude 3’s expanded contextual understanding, it can process more information effectively. The lineup includes Claude 3 Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, with Opus hailed as the pinnacle of intelligence. Anthropic has made Opus and Sonnet available on claude.ai and its API, with Haiku set for release soon. These models find applications in chatbots, auto-completion, and data extraction tasks.

Addressing past limitations, Anthropic highlights Claude 3’s reduced likelihood to refuse prompts, showcasing improved contextual understanding. This development aligns with Meta’s rumored safety measures for Llama 3.

Anthropic asserts that Claude 3 delivers near-instant results, even when tackling dense material like research papers. Haiku, the smallest variant, stands out as the fastest and most cost-effective model, capable of analyzing complex documents within seconds.
